The Garden is Waking

As some of you many know, two weeks ago my family and I had a traumatic experience. My hubby had a reaction to one of his medications that was very alarming. Those few days were even worst then the weeks spent in a hospital half-way across the country for his brain surgery! Thankfully we figured out the cause and he is doing much better. It was one of those weeks I needed to remind myself over and over again... (I'll let Josh Wilson take it from here)...
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to those who have kept us in your prayers!

After spending a few days at my parent's house we finally regrouped and headed back home. When we pulled in our drive-way we were immediately greeted by our Magnolia tree in full bloom! It was like a breath of fresh air!
After the buds form they take numerous days to open... Travis and I have a bit of a contest each year to see who can guess the day the tree will be in full bloom. The blooms may only last a few days before the petals fall to the ground and they are replaced by leaves, but those few days are a magnificent sight!
After admiring the Magnolia, I wondered through the garden where I found numerous other signs of new life, rejuvenation and for me, pure joy! It was truly a gift from God! I love watching the garden awake from it's winter nap, I feel like my spirit awakes along with it! While growing up I spent many, many days in the garden with my mom (see photos of it, here). Her mom was a gardener, and her mom, etc. It think it flows in my veins!
I'm not sure what this blooming shrub is, but it's growing up within a larger shrub. Whatever it is I think it's lovely!
Our Redbud is the other flowering tree we have on our property. We planted a pink Dogwood last year but sadly it didn't make it. I think I'll give it another try though, perhaps a white one this time, I heard they're more hardy.
I love the vibrant, long-lasting color of the Redbud!
The Bleeding Heart is one of my favorite flowers... so sweet, delicate and beautiful! You got to love a flower in the shape of a heart!
I think I'm going to frame this next photo for our master bedroom or one of the girl's rooms!
This next photo may not be so pretty, but it was actually one of the things I was most excited about!
...Do you know what it is? It's my most favorite flower... a Peony! I got it last summer, and it was small but cheap. After the late summer heat got to it I was sure it didn't make it. So, when I saw that it was still alive-and-kickin' I was overjoyed!

For our small lot we have lots of large trees, which means we have lots of shade gardens. One of my favorite shade-loving plants is the Hosta...
I even enjoyed seeing the new growth on the small Boxwoods I planted two years ago...
If you need me I'll be in the garden!

*What's blooming in your garden? What are your favorite flowers?

  2. your mystery shrub is a flowering quince...the branches are great for forcing blooms inside...just cut of some twigs as soon as the bloom buds begin to appear and bring them inside in a vase or bottle of water...wa-la...in a day or two you get gorgeous blossoms way before they ever open outdoors...just beware the thorns...they are really nasty...these shrubs will live forever...we have on that belonged to my dh's grandmother...it is almost 100 years old

  7. What a wonderful homecoming and a special reminder of the Lord's promise to us! We can go through cold, dry and desolate times but then out pops beauty and renewal! One of my favorite chapters is Psalm 91 but in particular verse 14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name."
